The Acting Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of Accord Party (AP), Adeyemi Alli, has defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
AG is a newly inaugurated political party in the state.
Alli announced his defection on Tuesday during a radio programme on Sweet FM 107.1, Abeokuta. He alleged that he was sidelined by the leaders of the party led by Chief Doyin Okupe and others who just joined the party after he had emerged as the authentic chairman elected over a year ago.
He further alleged that they made him Acting Chairman and nobody informed him on the inauguration of the party secretariat held last week .
Alli said he and some aggrieved members of the party had concluded arrangements to defect to APGA “because of this charade and injustice”.
Reacting, the South West chairman of the party, Ojo Kayode told journalists that the party was aware of Alli’s defection, describing him as “mere acting Chairman”.
Kayode who asserted that there was no crisis in the party, explained that the national chairman had during the inauguration of the party in Ogun state said that the congress would be held in few months which he said would officially produce the new executive.
He said, “There is no crisis in Accord Party. Adeyemi only acted as Chairman for about nine months and during this period he was not connecting with the party. He has never held a meeting in the party or stepped his foot into the secretariat”.
” Exco emerge in Accord party through congress like other political parties.
The last executive ended her tenure in 2015 and since then no congress has been held to produce new exco. He was only selected to oversee the party pending the time another congress would be held. He was not elected. It was just a letter issued tohim to preside over the party.”
