The Nigerian Slum / Informal Settlement Federation and Justice & Empowerment Initiatives – Nigeria (JEI) will tomorrow join with evictees from the Lekki settlement of Otodo Gbame to mark the National Day of Mourning and call for justice for the displaced and the families of Daniel Aya, Elijah Avonda, and others who lost their lives to forced eviction.
The National Day of Mourning is a nationwide commemoration bringing diverse voices together to mourn the violent killings and mass displacement that has become the norm across the country.
Though circumstances of internal displacement and violent killings vary, the pain and suffering of bereaved families and the displaced are shared.

A statement from Meghan Chapman, Executive Director of JEI directed protestors to wear black or wear a black armband to show solidarity.
‘’Please JOIN US to mark this important occasion with solemn statements and a procession starting from the roundabout on the Lekki side of Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge at 7:30am on Monday, 28 May 2018. Show your solidarity with the displaced and add your voice to demand an end to forced displacement and violent killings in Nigeria,’’ she said.
