AFN postpones ‘Twilight Meet’

AFN postpones ‘Twilight Meet’

Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, on Friday in Abuja said that the proposed Athletics Twilight Meet scheduled to hold in Abuja on Friday had been rescheduled.

Nesiama told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the competition was rescheduled to allow for certain salient details to be fine-tuned.
“This is due to the fact that we want to ensure that the meet truly meets the objectives for which it was conceptualized”, he said.
NAN recalls that the first of the competition’s series was earlier slated to hold on Friday.

Nesiama said that the technical committee needed to ensure it could run seamlessly without logistics hitches on either its organisation or the athletes’ performances.
“Besides, we also felt we should carry out a trial run first with the Abuja-based athletes before making it open. A firm date would be announced in due course,’’ he said.

The technical director, however, said that the first leg of the Golden League would still hold as scheduled.
“The first leg of the Golden League will still hold on April 12 at the Abuja National Stadium and only athletes pre-registered and licensed for the league would be permitted to participate. I am also using this medium to call on athletes who have not registered before now to do so without delay,’’
