Ambode dissolves boards of all parastatals, appoints new Accountant General

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday took another step to cement his hold on power by dissolving the Boards of all Parastatals and Agencies of Government in the State, with the exception of the Civil Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission and the State Independent Electoral Commission.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Habib Aruna, the Governor stated that the dissolution takes immediate effect.
Ambode however commended the modest contributions of members of the dissolved Boards, just as he wished them well in their future endeavours.
The much expected dissolution is another step in Mr Ambode’s resolve to stamp his imprimatur on government by appointing officials whom he feels could best realize his policy decision into key positions.
Two weeks ago, he had relieved the another set of senior officials of the state government of their duties.
Meanwhile, Ambode has also approved the appointment of Mrs. Abimbola Shukrat Umar as the new Accountant General of the State/ Permanent Secretary, (State Treasury office).
Mrs. Umar, prior to her new appointment, was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
A holder of the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Economics (1983) from the University of Ibadan and Masters of Science in Corporate Governance (2013) from Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds United Kingdom, Mrs Umar is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Nigeria Economic Society respectively.
She also cut her teeth for over 15 years in the private sector, particularly with the renowned KPMG International before joining the Lagos State Civil Service as Chief Accountant in 2002.
Her appointment, according to the statement, takes effect immediately.
