The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the suspension of its planned presentation of Certificates of return for the Zamfara Governorship and State House of Assembly scheduled for Wednesday.
This, according to the commission, followed its receipt of the judgment of the Court of Appeal Sokoto concerning the sponsoring of candidates by the APC in Zamfara.
The court ruled that the APC cannot present any candidate for the Governorship and state House of Assembly elections because the party did not conduct party primaries as required by law.
A lower court had ruled that the APC can present candidates and the party subsequently won the state governorship election.
However, INEC, in a twitter message, did not state when the presentation would now take place.
The message said: INEC has been served with the judgment of the Court of Appeal Sokoto concerning the sponsoring of candidates by the APC in Zamfara and is studying same. Consequently, the presentation of Certificates of Return for the Zamfara Governorship and State House of Assembly scheduled for Wednesday 27th March 2019 has been suspended.’’
