A bus driver was confirmed dead on Saturday morning in an accident involving a tanker and a commercial bus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The identity of the victim is yet to be known.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) , Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta disclosed that it was as a result of speeding on the part of the tanker coming from Lagos State who hit the barrier and rammed into the bus going to Lagos.
The PRO said that the commercial bus driver lost his life on the spot.
He said “The accident involved a tanker laden with ethanol with registration number AKD 650 XQ and a Mazda commercial bus with registration number BWR 515 XA. The tanker laden with ethanol coming from Lagos hit the barrier and rammed into bus going into Lagos. Only the driver of the bus presumed dead for now”.
Akinbiyi said that the police have handed over the remains of the victim to his relatives.
He stated that slow movement were currently experienced on both sides of the express, adding that officials of TRACE and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were on ground doing the needful.
