Several participants turned up for this month’s edition of the Children Art Club held on Saturday, February 21 at the Cultural and Musical Heritage Centre, Olumo Rock, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The children were put through their paces in creating art on ready-to-wear t-shirts by initiator of the project, Olusegun Adeniyi and artist Lanre Tejuoso amongst others at the session that lasted four hours.
They were given paints, brushes and other necessary materials to make beautiful designs on the t-shirts while one of the facilitators also spoke to them on art and its importance
Speaking with CITY VOICE after the training, the Abeokuta-based Adeniyi disclosed that The Children Art Club “was established to make art education and art practice accessible and affordable (absolutely free) for children irrespective of their social background, status or religion affiliation.
“It is meant to improve and expand access to art education in such a way that the children of our nation will receive a broad and balanced education. The essence is to create a springboard to help the children on their voyage of discovery and self-expression.”
He added that it is also “an outlet for self-expression, started in January 2015 to unlock talents, encourage aspirations, and nurture creativity. It is a creative platform for every child to help them harness, maximize and express unhindered their God given potentials in a serene environment that inspire creativity.”
Adeniyi further noted that the training enables children express themselves creatively through drawing, mosaic, collage, painting, sculpture, wearable art, graffiti, and many more. Aside this, they learn art techniques under the guidance of a practicing artist and also share ideas with their peers.
The next edition of the training will hold on Saturday, March 21 at the Olumo Rock.
