Eleven Ogun undergraduates killed in auto-crash

Twelve persons, including eleven undergraduates of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State were killed in auto crash which occurred along Sagamu-Benin Expressway at the weekend.
The accident occurred at Ilishan area of Remo Local Government of the State, following a head-on-collision involving a truck and a Mazda bus conveying the students from Ijebu to Lagos
The tragedy was said to have been caused by a DAV Truck, with Registration Number Lagos, BDG 779 XE, which drove against the traffic rule and faced the oncoming Mazda bus, with registration number, XV 311 MUS, killing all its occupants.
An officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Tommy Hamzat, who claimed to be at the scene of the accident, told journalists that the truck driver drove against the traffic and ran into the bus.
“I was coming from Sagamu side and saw the accident. I had to hurriedly park my car and ran there to see if the passengers could be rescued. Unfortunately, all the occupants were killed, including the driver,” he said.
“The bus is facing Lagos, though I don’t know where it was coming from. The truck was coming from Sagamu side, but it was driving against the traffic and that resulted in the collision which eventually claimed the lives of the innocent people.”
Hamzat explained that a survivor, Akinbode Ibukun who sustained serious injuries was rushed to Idera Private Hospital in Sagamu for medical attention, while the corpses were taken to a morgue.
It was learnt that while the police has recovered the truck for investigation, the driver of the truck was said to have taken to his heels to avoid being mobbed by angry citizens at the scene of the accident.
The Commander of TRACE in Sagamu, Kehinde Arode and the Ogun State Police Public Relations, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident, with further affirmation that the police will commence investigation into the matter, especially at getting the owner of the truck and subsequent arrest of the fleeing driver
