Seven commuters sustained various degrees of injury Friday in an automobile accident along Ikeja expressway.
The accident, which occurred some minutes before noon, according to eyewitness account, was caused by a high-speeding trailer that ran into an oncoming and fully loaded commercial Volkswagen, injuring all the passengers. The trailer, marked LXR740XG was loaded with 40fts container.
On arrival at the scene of the accident, CITYVOICE observed how all the injured passengers were being taken out of crushed vehicle.
An elderly woman, a young lady, the driver, his conductor and another middle aged man were seen with injuries
The driver of the commercial bus, with registration number LXR525XF, appeared to be the worst hit. He sustained multiple injuries on his jaw, back and legs, and was unconscious for more than 20 minutes before he later roared back to live, vomiting blood. His name could not be ascertained as at press time.

His conductor equally sustained serious injuries and was being attended to by passersby.
“Oh my God. These people need immediate medical attention now,” a sympathizer cried on their behalf.
“We have already called the Lagos Ambulance Hotline. They promised to be here in a minute,” another sympathiser replied her.
The incident already created serious gridlock on the expressway, from the accident scene at Ajayi Farm, to Airport Road Bus Stop, a distance of about 500kms.
CITYVOICE further gathered that the trailer was coming from Dopemu, on his way towards Oshodi, at a very high speed, when he suddenly ran into two vehicles, whose drivers were engaged in a quarrel for hitting each other’s vehicle.
“The driver was on a high speed when he suddenly ran into two vehicles and their occupants, who were engaging in a fight for striking each other’s vehicle. At that stage, he had no option than to veer off to the other empty lane going to Dopemu,” an eyewitness told a military officer who demanded explanation into what happened.
“The driver really tried. If not for his initiative, he could have ran into the crowd, with the possibility of high number of causalities. But he veered off. We need to commend him. It was unfortunate that he had to run into the buses,” an elderly man who sells at the Spare Parts shop opposite the scene of the accident told this reporter.
