The House of Representatives member representing IpokIa/ Yewa South federal constituency of Ogun State, Abdul kabir Adekunle Akinlade, has said that he is qualified to be governor of the state come 2019.
Akinlade, who went to the lower chamber of the National Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he has learnt a lot from Governor Ibikunle Amosun and that he has the capacity to lead the state to another level if given the chance.
He spoke in Ijebu-Ode on Monday when he visited Ogun East APC elders to declare his governorship ambition and seek their support.
Akinlade added that the Governor needed to handover to a trustworthy person who would not tarnish his enviable legacy.
The lawmaker popularly called Triple A said, “I came to Ogun East Senatorial district to seek for your support and blessing because I want to contest the governorship seat come 2019.
“I believe I am ably qualified for the position. I have worked closely with the governor and I have learnt a lot from him and so I am qualified and I have the capacity to do it. I want to add that I am God fearing person and trustworthy.
“The present achievement and legacy of Amosun should be handed over to the person who has the capacity, trust and confidence because if we fail to, the legacy may be shattered (God forbid). It is not for me, but it is for the service to our dear state.”
The lawmaker added that as a financial expert, he had identified “more than N1trillion economic potentials” in Ogun which his government would explore for the viability of the state economy.
Akinlade told the party leaders that he would place them at “their rightful positions” if he emerges because “I know where the party belongs and where it should be.”
An elder statesman in Ijebu land, Dr. Gbolade Oshinowo assured that the Ijebu elders would support his ambition.
Oshinowo explained that Ijebu and Remo do not have any other choice than to support the good people of Ogun West Senatorial District,
He disclosed that since the Governor openly expressed his support for the region, they must follow suit.
Senator Dipo Ogunjimi also commended Akinlade’s courage for declaring his intention and assured him of his support.
