NASS Legislative Aides protest backlog of unpaid salaries

The National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum today disrupted activities of the Legislative Arm of Government over alleged backlog of unpaid salaries.

The protesting aids chanting solidarity songs were earlier in the day addressed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila

Part of their grievances is the long time agitation for training and allowances.

The Chairman of the Forum Salisu Zuru addressing journalists during the protest expressed worries that their statutory Duty Tour Allowance is not paid and their 2019 salary arrears equally not been paid, despite the adoption of the issue at House of Representatives.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila who addressed the protesters before gaining entrance into the White House of the National Assembly urged them to exercise some patience as the issues will be addressed.

He commended their peaceful conduct and called for calm.

The Aides with their different placards were seen chanting songs while the days sitting were going on.

As long as the Legislative Aides are concerned, the issue of the 2019 arrears is a matter of when and not if as all arguments have been canvassed and resolution reached before the 9th Assembly mounted the saddle.

You will recall that a letter signed by six representatives of the group by their regional representation had earlier issued a 48 hours’ notice of intention to commence on series of actions which includes steps to invoke section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to embark on peaceful gathering around the precincts of the National Assembly Complex.
