NEMA to rehabilitate, reconstruct communities for IDPs

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says it is set to rehabilitate and reconstruct the communities recovered from the Boko Haram sect for Internally Displaced Persons(IDPS).

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Sani Datti, NEMA’s Senior Information Officer, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
It said that the reconstruction of most of the communities became imperative after their recovery from the Boko Haram group.
“The liberation of most of the communities in the North-East from the occupation of Boko Haram insurgents, coupled with the massive return of Nigerians from the Republics of Cameroon and Niger, has changed the humanitarian outlook from emergency relief intervention to the rehabilitation of persons as well as recovery and reconstruction of the affected communities.”
The statement said that this would be done in collaboration with the UN and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), adding that an assessment of the communities was already ongoing.
It stated that the extent of damage and loss in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe had been undertaken and submission made to the government, for appropriate intervention by line Ministries, Department and Agencies.
It noted that the humanitarian outcome of the insurgency had equally impacted the contiguous states of Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau and Taraba as well as the neighbouring Republics of Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
According to the statement, about 57,743 Nigerian refugees are in Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
It said that Cameroon was hosting 40,366 in Minawayo, Mora, Fotocol, Limani, Amchide, Douala, Kentzou and Garoua Bouali refugee camps.
It added that 15,000 were also taking refuge in Diffa, Bosso, Maine and Kablewa, all in the Republic of Niger, while 2, 377 were being accommodated in the Lake Chad town of Ngouboua.
