Panic in Osun, as six infected persons escape Ejigbo COVID isolation centre

There is panic among health officials in Osun State l, as the government Saturday morning launched a manhunt for six persons with confirmed infection of COVID-19 who escaped from an isolation centre in Ejigbo on Friday night.

The six persons belong to a cluster of COVID-19 cases who returned to their hometown, Ejigbo, from Ivory Coast last week and were quarantined by the state government.

The group of 127 persons came in a convoy of buses from Ivory Coast going to their hometown and were initially denied passage inside Ogun State.

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun got in touch with Gov Isiala Oyetola of Osun, who rescued them, brought them to their hometown, Ejigbo but ordered that they be quarantined for tests to confirm their COVID-19 status. About 16 of them were found to be positive.

A statement from the government, which announced the escape from the isolation centre, also listed the names of the six persons with their phone numbers.
