Schools to now resume, Sept 22

The Federal Government has fixed Monday, September 22, 2014 as new resumption date for the 2014/2015 academic session.

The government had, after the council meeting on August 26, postponed resumption of private and public primary as well as and secondary schools to October 13, 2014, as a precautionary step against the spread of the Ebola virus.

However, the resumption date has been reversed to September 22 following a review ordered by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The Minister of Education, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau was recently ordered by the council to review the directive given to schools over their resumption, following the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria.

Schools must conclude training of at least two teachers before the opening date as well as acquire two pieces of the temperature thermometre to ensure that students are checked as they resume.

He however warned that any reported rumour of the symptoms of the virus should be reported as rapid response team will be available to speedily intervene.
