We are working to unravel identity of abductors of OOU students – Police

By Michael Adesanya/Abeokuta
The police are yet to ascertain the identities of the kidnappers of the two female students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ayetoro Campus and it will be too hasty now to conclude that they are certain people, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesman of the Ogun police command has said.
Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Sunday night kidnapped the two female students of the OOU, Ayetoro Campus, Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 9pm on Sunday, when the suspected bandits stormed Igbole Aibo quarter area of Ayetoro, shooting sporadically.
Residents, who spoke with newsmen under the condition of anonymity, said the gunmen accosted and abducted the two students who were said to be returning home at the time.
The students have been identified as Adeyemo Oluwaseun Precious (300 level Forestry and Wildlife Management) and Oyefule Oluwatosin Abisola (300 level, Agricultural Economics).
It was gathered that the bandits targeted a female call card voucher bulk dealer living in the area. But due to their failure to break through the gate to her house, which they had attacked, they resorted to abducting the two female varsity students.
“Being unable to gain access, they started shooting sporadically to create fear and it was at this point Seun and Tosin were returning home, which is at the same house the call card dealer lives near Igbole Aibo Community Primary School, Aibo Quarter, Ayetoro, Ogun State,” a resident said.
The Deputy Registrar, Corporate Affairs Unit, of the institution, Mr. Niyi Oduwole, described  it as unfortunate.
Oduwole said the university management are on top of the situation in ensuring the safe return of the abductees.
“The incident is most unfortunate,” he said. “The university is beefing up security around all our campuses and hostels.
“We sympathise with parents of the victims and we want to assure them that their wards will be rescued unhurt. We are on top of the situation.”
Oyeyemi disclosed that the police were doing everything possible to ensure the safe return of the students.
He, however, said the police were yet to ascertain whether the abductors are bandits.
His words: “They (students) have their house in one isolated area, and on their way coming to the house, the abductors accosted them and abducted them. We are on top of it, the anti-kidnapping unit are on the trail of the kidnappers while the Area Commander of Ayetoro division is coordinating the rescue operation.
“The entire area has been cordoned off and we are doing everything possible to make sure that the students are rescued unhurt and hopefully we will rescue them.
“We are yet to ascertain the identities of the kidnappers. It will be too hasty now to conclude that they are certain people”.
He disclosed that the police had earlier foiled a kidnapping attempt in the area and rescued the victim while the kidnappers escaped.
